PARZEROTotal Care

Important disclosure

This is not insurance

PARZERO Total Care is a prepaid discount plan that gives members reduced prices on health services. It is not insurance, it is not a substitute for insurance, and it does not pay providers on your behalf. There is no deductible because there is nothing to claim against — you pay the member price directly at the time of service.

The difference in one paragraph

Insurance is a promise to pay for care. This is a negotiated price on care you pay for yourself.

With insurance you have a policy, and when you are treated the insurer pays the provider some or all of the bill. With a discount plan there is no policy and no payer. You show a card, you are charged the member price instead of the standard price, and you pay it. That is the entire mechanism.

What this means in practice

  • Not insurance, and not a substitute for it. There is no policy, no coverage and no claim.
  • It does not pay your providers. You pay the member price yourself, at the time of service.
  • It will not protect you from a catastrophic bill. If you need that, you need insurance.
  • A card confirms membership. It is not a guarantee of payment or of eligibility for any particular price.
  • It is not a qualified health plan, and it does not satisfy any legal requirement to hold health coverage.

What it does do

For $79 a month, up to 5 people get member prices on the care households actually use during a normal year — a virtual visit, a prescription, a cleaning, a blood panel. On a high-deductible insurance plan those are usually paid out of pocket at full price anyway.

That is a real, narrow benefit. We would rather you understand its limits now than discover them at a hospital.

You will be asked to confirm you read this

Before you pay, enrollment asks you to acknowledge — as a separate, deliberate step, not bundled into the terms of service — that you understand this plan is not insurance. We keep a record of that acknowledgement, including which version of this disclosure you saw.
